  • During the month of May, Montoursville Weis customers donated cat supplies to the Paws for Pets campaign. In conjunction with their grand re-opening, Weis store also donated $500 to LAPS.  Pictured left to right...Cathy Stripp, Assistant Manager, Mike Umstead, District Manager for Weis, Kevin Kessler, store manager, Megan Flanagan, assistant store manager, and Michelle Hopkins, LAPS volunteer.

  • Please help LAPS kickoff our Spring 2016 fundraising by joining the First Community Foundation for the Raise the Region campaign.

Raise the Region is an opportunity for people who care about their community to join together to raise money for LAPS and their other favorite nonprofits. It is a 30-hour online event starting at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 and ending at 11:59 pm on Thursday, March 10, 2016.

  • In an effort to keep our residents and any potential visitors healthy, visiting hours have been temporarily suspended while we treat several shelter residents for a fungal skin infection. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.

  • Our inventory of dry cat food is at an all-time low and we need your help! When you visit the grocery store or pet supply place, consider adding a bag of dry food to your cart. And with nearly 100 mouths to feed, LAPS could use food for both adults and kittens, but none containing red food dye, please. You can drop your donation off anytime during our open hours). Please don't leave any donations outside the shelter when no one is there because sometimes our donations go "missing". Thanks in advance for your help!

  • LAPS Supporters,
We are running very low on dry cat food and dry kitten chow (Purina preferred), as well as canned pate-style wet food (any brand). If anyone can help us out, food can be dropped off at the shelter. If you live outside of the area, but still want to help, get in touch with us at lapsshelter@windstream.net. Thank you for the support!

  • It is with heartfelt sadness that we report the unexpected passing of one of our dedicated volunteers, Kathy Hall, this past weekend. This was totally unexpected and a shock to everyone at LAPS. Kathy volunteered for us for a number of years on a twice weekly basis. She also helped at various fundraisers, such as book sales, yard sales and our stand at the Milton Harvest Festival. She also created a fundraiser of her own. If any of you ever purchased one of our cat’s eye cat bracelets, you have seen Kathy’s work. Kathy had a love of cats and jewelry.

  • This year’s Lycoming County Fair is scheduled to start on July 10th and end on July 19th. We are looking for help to man the stand for us. With the exception of Thursday, we need coverage for two shifts a day: 1pm-5pm and 5pm-9pm (only 5-9 on Thursday). We hope that some of you might consider helping with a shift on one of these days.

You will get passes to park, get into the fair and detailed instructions on how the stand operates. We also have everything pre-priced to make it easy for those who volunteer.

  • We have an urgent need for volunteers. We have lost at least 4 of our very dedicated and hard working volunteers at the shelter due to health issues. This has put a huge drain on our volunteer resources. Many of our existing volunteers hold down full-time jobs and then devote a number of hours a week to feeding, medicating, cleaning litterboxes and just making sure we have well-cared for and happy, contented kitties. On top of that, a number of these volunteers do vet runs, pick ups and drop offs to Petco. People are doubling up but that will be impossible on a longterm basis.
